Rare deep-water skate uses hydrothermal vents as nursery

Once, the deep waters were thought to be lifeless. But with the exploratory remote vehicles availabe nowadays, we have found so much life! Turns out we find not only life but also nurseries. This study by scientists at the Charles Darwin Foundation and collaborators found that deep-water skates use hydrothermal vents to incubate their eggs in the Galapagos! likely because the temperatures found at those vents are higher than those of surrounding areas and may aid with embryo development…
